How can companies successfully integrate international skilled workers, and what opportunities does the dual vocational training system offer in this context? The German Professional School (GPS) will provide valuable information and insights into these questions at its specialist forum on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The event will take place at the COMCENTER Brühl, Mainzerhofstraße 10 in Erfurt. Companies, educational institutions, and organizations interested in learning more and networking on this topic are invited to attend. GPS has been operating in Thuringia for about a year, preparing young people for the Thuringian job market with a comprehensive curriculum. This program combines language instruction and basic knowledge about German society and the economy with individual career coaching and placement in apprenticeships.
“The aim of our conference is to contribute to building a network between companies, educational institutions, and other organizations,” says Sabine Wosche, Managing Director of LEG Thüringen, where GPS is located. “This exchange will lead to new, practical solutions for the diverse challenges we all face when it comes to integrating international skilled workers.”
In addition to numerous networking opportunities, the forum primarily offers insights and best practices demonstrating how companies can successfully work with international young people. An ideas workshop and themed discussion tables will provide knowledge on a wide range of topics, including cultural characteristics, participant recruitment, language training, and the challenges of placement. The event's geographical focus is on Ukraine and Latin America, where GPS has established Contact , particularly in Mexico. Partners from Mexico will be present at the forum and will give presentations on learning, daily life, and work culture in Latin America.
Background:
The German Professional School (GPS) was founded on the initiative of the Thuringian Ministry of Economic Affairs and is located at LEG Thüringen . Its central service unit is in Erfurt; the four main campuses are spread throughout Thuringia, namely in Eisenach, Mühlhausen, Gotha, and Jena. GPS ensures the fundamental vocational qualifications of young international professionals by, in particular, imparting German language skills and intercultural competence, conducting assessments of learning progress and individual potential analyses, establishing Contact with Thuringian companies, organizing internships and preparatory courses, and ultimately guiding participants to the conclusion of an apprenticeship contract with a Thuringian company.
