ERFURT – Materials such as metals, ceramics, and polymers form the basis for manufacturing in all sectors of the economy. This year's Thuringian Materials Day, taking place on March 7, 2019, at the Ilmenau University of Technology, will focus on the exchange of ideas and experiences among numerous entrepreneurs and researchers regarding new developments, trends, and opportunities for joint collaborations. What distinguishes the world's largest membrane plant for the production of ultrapure oxygen – developed in Thuringia!? What new coating materials are available today? How do we develop novel glass-ceramic materials through plasma melting? – These are some of the questions that participants will discuss at the conference, which is themed "Future-Oriented Materials Development, Testing, and Application." "Knowledge transfer, establishing and strengthening Contact , as well as solutions for recruiting skilled workers are the focus of Materials Day," says Andreas Krey, Managing Director of LEG. LEG, with its Thuringian Cluster Management team, is organizing the conference.
The Materials Day traditionally takes place annually, alternating between the research locations of Ilmenau, Jena, and Weimar. This year's keynote address will focus on integrated materials and technology development, using energy storage systems as an example. A key topic will be battery production in Germany, a subject of intense discussion at the moment. The lecture program will feature speakers presenting new developments in materials research, testing, and application; they will report on the use of innovative technologies and highlight opportunities for future collaboration. The program includes both individual and tandem presentations; in the latter, entrepreneurs and researchers will discuss their collaborative projects.
