The state is handing over a total of 6.4 million euros to the Thuringian Innovation Centre for Recyclable Materials (ThIWert)The Thuringian Institute for Materials Research and Testing (ThIWert), affiliated with Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences, has been developing new strategies for the use of secondary raw materials since 2018 and conducts research in areas such as sustainable construction, geotechnics, and bioresource management. New research equipment will enable ThIWert to intensify its activities and serve as a pilot project for materials processing with a supra-regional impact. In the medium term, the goal is to integrate circular economy principles into business practice. This funding underscores Thuringia's active role in the transition to a more sustainable economy. Other partners include the Bauhaus University Weimar (BUW) and the Institute for Applied Building Research (IAB) in Weimar. The shared objective is "to best prepare the next generation of experts in the fields of circular economy and sustainable development," according to Prof. Dr.-Ing. Robert Wudtke, head of ThIWert.

“Digital Mobility Research Initiative”: The Thuringian Innovation Centre for Mobility (ThIMo) ThIMo is also pleased to receive €6.4 million in funding from the state. Founded in 2011 at the Ilmenau University of Technology, ThIMo helps translate basic research into solutions for industry. Its areas of expertise range from drive technology and plastics engineering to power electronics, from which projects on electric and connected mobility emerge. As part of the "Digital Mobility Research Initiative," this latest funding will specifically expand its activities to include digital methods. ThIMo collaborates with a wide range of partners and, together with the Thuringian Centers for Mechanical Engineering and for Learning Systems and Robotics, the Thuringian Institute for Textile and Plastics Research, and the Bauhaus University Weimar, is advancing the "Digital Mobility Research Initiative." This will unlock the potential of digital methods for more environmentally friendly mobility through Thuringian research and development. (jp)
