Balancing work and caregiving: New course supports employers and employees

The online services of the Thuringian Agency for Skilled Worker Recruitment (ThAFF) provide knowledge and tips / The number of working caregivers in Thuringian companies is steadily increasing

ERFURT – The issue of reconciling work and family life by no means only affects working parents with children, but also employees who care for relatives: In Thuringia, more and more people are providing care for family members in need of care, mostly their (parents-in-law). Two-thirds of caregivers are not yet of retirement age and are predominantly employed. Starting Monday, September 12, the free course "Workplace Care Guides Thuringia DIGITAL" will provide important insights and tips for those affected as well as for employers. Participants will receive the necessary basic knowledge on the topic of "Reconciling Work and Caregiving"; the course is offered by the Thuringian Agency for Skilled Worker Recruitment (ThAFF). "The vast majority of care in Germany is provided within families, and the number of working people who shoulder this responsibility is constantly increasing," says Sabine Wosche, Managing Director of LEG, where ThAFF is located. "With our course, we support employees and employers and make their situation easier – and for companies, offers for better work-life balance are also an important instrument for attracting and retaining skilled workers."

Course content includes topics such as improving the compatibility of work and caregiving, long-term care insurance benefits, and access to regional support services. Participants who complete the course can serve as a contact person within their company, informing those affected about the necessary steps when a caregiving situation arises, pointing them toward available support and further information, and providing ongoing assistance. The course consists of seven video modules that can be accessed anytime, anywhere, within a four-week period, according to work requirements.

Those interested can still register for the course at www.thaff-thueringen.de

Hbackground:

The Thuringian Agency for Skilled Worker Recruitment (ThAFF) is located within LEG Thüringen and was founded in 2011. Commissioned by the Thuringian Ministry of Labor, its primary goals are twofold: firstly, to help Thuringian companies meet their growing demand for skilled workers, and secondly, to support young people entering the workforce, as well as commuters and potential returnees, in (re)entering the workforce in Thuringia. To this end, ThAFF promotes Thuringia as an employment location, advises its target groups, and informs them about job opportunities in the Free State (for example, through commuter days). With its own company contact fairs – "academix" for young people and "comeback" for commuters and returnees – it connects companies with (future) skilled workers. ThAFF is also actively involved in various networks and supports labor market stakeholders at events. ThAFF is funded by the Free State of Thuringia.
