ERFURT – Especially during Advent, the Bummi department store, run by the AWO Alten-, Jugend- und Sozialhilfe (AJS) gGmbH (Workers' Welfare Association for the Elderly, Youth and Social Welfare), enjoys high demand. Parents who are struggling financially shop here on Thomasstrasse in Erfurt, buying toys, clothes, and other gifts for their little ones for the most wonderful time of the year. For many, this is the only way to surprise their loved ones with a nice present under the Christmas tree. The employees of LEG Thüringen 's state-owned development bank) are aware of this and have once again collected donations this year: Numerous moving boxes full of games, puzzles, dolls, stuffed animals, books, art supplies, clothes, shoes, and even scooters, inline skates, and bicycle helmets – both new and used – were gathered during the donation drive.

The joyful and useful gifts were presented on Thursday, December 15, 2022, by department head Anke Kalb and Simone Otto from the LEG's Human Resources and Skilled Workforce Management department; Sonja Tragboth from AJS and Maria Böwe, a full-time employee at the Bummi department store, accepted the donation. "We are delighted by the fantastic commitment of our employees," said Andreas Krey and Sabine Wosche, managing directors of LEG, at the handover. "Bringing joy with this donation shortly before Christmas has become a cherished tradition – we first carried out this initiative ten years ago, in December 2012!"

Background:

The "Bummi Department Store" on Thomasstrasse is a project of AWO Alten-, Jugend- und Sozialhilfe (AJS) gGmbH (AWO Senior Citizens', Youth and Social Welfare). Here, low-income parents can purchase toys and clothing for their children at affordable prices. In recent years, LEG employees have supported the store with donations of goods during Advent.
