On May 27, 2025, Fraunhofer IKTS and thyssenkrupp nucera opened the first pilot production plant for SOEC (Solid Oxide Electrolysis Cell) stacks in Arnstadt. This innovative high-temperature electrolysis technology enables the particularly efficient production of green hydrogen – a key component for the decarbonization of energy-intensive industries. The plant, with a planned annual capacity of 8 MW, marks the transition from research to industrial application. It was inaugurated in the presence of high-ranking representatives from politics, science, and industry, including Thuringia's Minister-President Mario Voigt. The strategic partnership between Fraunhofer IKTS and thyssenkrupp nucera strengthens the hydrogen technology portfolio and underscores Thuringia's importance as a location for future technologies.
