ERFURT – Exchange helps to break down barriers and seize opportunities: Following this principle, the Thuringian networking evening "STEM Whispers" will take place on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at the COMCENTER Brühl (Erfurt). The acronym "STEM" stands for the fields of study and careers: mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, and technology. Women are still underrepresented in these fields, and the networking evening is open to female guests who are pursuing studies or a career in these areas, or who are already working in these fields and would like to expand their Career opportunities. As in previous years, "STEM Whispers" is being organized by the Thuringian Coordination Office for Science and Technology (ThüKo NWT), based at the TU Ilmenau, and LEG Thüringen, whose headquarters are located at the COMCENTER Brühl.
“The Thuringian networking evening MINT-Geflüster creates a valuable platform for women in STEM professions, enabling networking, knowledge transfer and mutual support – especially for female students and young professionals, who are thus specifically supported and strengthened on their way into STEM professions,” says Melanie Meder-Jurcin, project coordinator of ThüKo NWT.
The networking evening offers all participants a wide range of opportunities to exchange ideas with like-minded women from the fields of science and technology. The event is aimed at female students, graduates, doctoral candidates, women returning to the workforce, employees, and female managers at Thuringian universities and in the regional economy. "It is absolutely commendable when young women choose to pursue STEM studies or careers," says LEG Managing Director Sabine Wosche. "LEG is pleased to support this event, which provides participants with practical information and Contact . STEM careers offer excellent opportunities for self-realization and career advancement for all those who choose them, and in times of skilled labor shortages, we cannot afford to ignore the significant potential of women in this field."
At the networking evening, women will share insights into their life and Career paths. A panel discussion will feature female experts discussing STEM career fields and pathways, and a get-together will provide opportunities for networking. The panel discussion will include Ina Henze-Ludwig, Managing Director of COLANDIS GmbH (cleanroom technology); Sabine Strässer, Data Architect at Siemens; Maja Kühne, Biochemist at Zeiss Meditec AG; and Henrike Zacher, doctoral candidate at TU Ilmenau. Prior to the official start of the event at 6:00 p.m., an afternoon workshop on "Communication Training" will be offered. Participants will learn valuable information on initiating conversations and effectively addressing their concerns. Key topics include quick-wittedness, recognizing factors that establish rapport, and understanding the other person's communication patterns.
Background:
LEG has always been deeply committed to equal opportunities and diversity. Since 2007, it has held the "TOTAL E-QUALITY" award, which recognizes its dedication to these areas. Recently, after receiving the award five times, it achieved permanent status in the Thuringian Sustainability Agreement (NAT), particularly for its social commitment to equal opportunities in human resources management. Furthermore, the "Thuringian Agency for Skilled Worker Recruitment" (ThAFF), located within LEG, promotes Thuringia as a place to work, supports Thuringians returning to the local job market, and assists companies in meeting their skilled worker needs. The Thuringian Coordination Office for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) is a unit of Thuringian universities; it encourages female students to pursue STEM studies in Thuringia and supports female students throughout their studies.
