Jobs and Career in Thuringia: Trade fair in Erfurt brings companies and skilled workers together

The Thuringian Agency for Skilled Workers is organizing the "Thuringian Job and Career Fair" for commuters, returnees, and young professionals / Saturday, June 15th, at the COMCENTER Brühl

ERFURT – Discover exciting employers and great jobs – skilled workers can do just that at the Thuringian Job and Career Fair “academix meets comeback.” On Saturday, June 15, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., around 70 employers from various sectors across Thuringia will present their opportunities at the COMCENTER Brühl (Erfurt). Following the successful premiere last year, the Thuringian Agency for Skilled Worker Recruitment (ThAFF) is combining its two successful skilled worker fairs, “academix Thuringia” and “comeback,” into a single “Thuringian Job and Career Fair.” Exhibitors will be presenting themselves in the COMCENTER Brühl and the adjacent courtyard. The fair is aimed at both commuters and potential returnees – Thuringian skilled workers currently employed but not working in the state – and young people in schools and universities, as well as young professionals looking to enter the workforce through regular employment, vocational training, or internships. At the start of the event at 10 a.m., a tour of the trade fair will take place with Thuringia's Minister of Labor Heike Werner, ThAFF team leader Alexander Reuß and State Secretary of Justice Meike Herz (TMMJV), who will be promoting training in the justice system and correctional facilities at the fair.

“If we want to address the foreseeable shortage of skilled workers in the coming years, we must seize every opportunity. The two well-known job fairs, comeback and academix, will continue under one roof this year, thus combining offerings for a wide range of target groups, including school pupils, students, young professionals, those looking to return to the region, and commuters. The Thuringian Job and Career Fair offers a fantastic opportunity to discover new and innovative companies in Thuringia and to talk to potential employers from the region. Everyone is welcome,” said patron and Thuringian Minister of Labor, Heike Werner.

“Last year proved successful: our concept of combining existing job opportunities is a success. We offer an attractive opportunity for job seekers and employers to connect directly, all in one place and at one time,” explains Alexander Reuß. “Furthermore, the future positive economic development of the Free State of Thuringia depends on our companies finding skilled workers. At the same time, young people want to take their first career steps in Thuringia, and commuters and potential returnees are happy to be able to work in their beloved home region again – for both employers and skilled workers, we are creating an opportunity that facilitates employment in the local job market!” This year, the day of the week on which the fair takes place is new: while it was on Thursday in 2023, it is now on Saturday – the weekend increases the likelihood that commuters and returnees will be visiting their home region of Thuringia/Erfurt, especially since the Krämerbrückenfest (Merchants' Bridge Festival) is also taking place at the same time, making it easy to combine a visit to the festival with participation in the job fair.

Among the presenting companies are diverse employers such as Carl Zeiss AG, Analytik Jena GmbH & Co. KG, Deutsche Bahn AG, AHORN Hotels & Resorts, PDV GmbH, and TEAG Thüringer Energie AG. In addition to job opportunities, visitors can also expect a varied supporting program. For example, those interested can receive feedback on their application documents in a portfolio review; free professional headshots for applications are available; and presentations will provide participants with information and tips on job searching, applications, and starting their careers.

Background:

The forerunners of the “Thuringian Job and Career Fair” are academix and comeback: the former, since its premiere in 2011, has been aimed at young people from schools, universities and the first years of their careers, while the latter, since 2013, has invited commuters and returnees to make Contact with local employers in order to enable them to find employment in their home country.
