Tree planting campaign of the LEG summer school

ERFURT – A harmonious atmosphere in nature, sparkling children's eyes, and the exciting opportunity to do something good for the climate and environment – these were the hallmarks of the first three editions of the LEG Summer School's engaging tree-planting campaign: in Azmannsdorf in 2021, in Töttelstädt in 2022, and in Haßleben in 2023. This community initiative has become a cherished tradition, and this autumn, the motto is once again: Act sustainably and with environmental awareness, learn new things, and make a difference together – all this is offered by the LEG Summer School's large-scale tree-planting campaign! This year, it will take place on Friday and Saturday, November 8th and 9th, in Hochstedt, a district in the far east of Erfurt. The planting will be carried out next to the sports field of SV Blau-Weiß 90 Hochstedt e.V. V. at Sömmerdaer Straße 30. Citizens from the region are cordially invited to plant trees there with their family, children or grandchildren on a green space and thus contribute, along with many others, to creating more sustainability, climate friendliness and quality of life in one place!

The program offers something for everyone: Planting will take place on both days from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Experts from the German Forest Protection Association (SDW) will be on hand to assist all participants with planting trees and provide them with fascinating information about trees, forests, and the environment. As in previous years, all young participants will receive a tree-planting certificate. A diverse program of activities for the whole family will also be offered. This year, for the first time, the Erfurt Hunting Association's information van will be present. The association, part of the German Hunting Association's "Learning Place Nature" initiative, will showcase taxidermied specimens of various native game species and invite children to explore objects in sensory boxes. Additionally, the neighboring Hochstedt Local History and Hunting Museum will be open to all interested visitors on Saturday, November 9, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Here, everything revolves around the cultivated plant woad, from which the people of Erfurt profitably extracted the blue dye from the Middle Ages into the early modern period – the woad trade was a significant factor in the city's wealth for centuries. Children learn all about the former practice of "making blue" and can dye wool with woad powder under supervision.

The event, under the motto "We're planting for the climate. Your future forest. Our tree planting campaign," is once again being organized by the association "LEG Summer School – Companies Committed to Families e. V.", which is closely linked to LEG through its board and association work. The German Forest Protection Association (SDW) and the Erfurt city administration, including the Hochstedt district, are also on board as supporters. Sponsors of the campaign include the Thuringian Development Bank (TAB), the Erfurt municipal utilities, the LEG subsidiary Thuringian Energy and GreenTech Agency (ThEGA), and the Erfurt-based company SECONRED Newmedia GmbH. The SDW has been successfully conducting similar campaigns throughout Germany for years. The area in Hochstedt was selected by experts. All partners have jointly financed a total of 1,200 trees, which are now ready to be planted.
