A delegation trip to Japan at the end of April, led by Thuringia's Minister of Economic Affairs, Wolfgang Tiefensee, offered numerous Contact and excellent conditions for market development. From April 20th to 27th, 25 companies and research institutions from the Free State explored the vast potential of the greater Tokyo area, the industrial diversity of Osaka, the port economy in Kobe, and innovative trends in Kyoto. Simultaneously, they visited the OPIE – Optics and Photonics International Exhibition, where Thuringian companies were also represented as exhibitors.

Japan has traditionally been an interesting cooperation partner for Thuringia: The Land of the Rising Sun is strong in industries and technology fields in which companies and researchers from the Free State are also very successful. This applies to the areas of optics/optoelectronics, sensor technology, micro/nanotechnology, medical technology, as well as environmental technologies and renewable energies. Furthermore, in times of more fragile supply chains, Japan is also gaining importance as a strategic procurement location, as the country offers reliable access to innovative and highly specialized suppliers. The program of the trip, organized by the LEG team "Thuringia International," included visits to companies and research institutions such as Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Horiba, Nidec, Kyocera, Haneda Innovation City, and Kyoto University. As part of OPIE, participants took part in an industry-specific workshop, followed by a networking dinner with Japanese companies from the optics and photonics industry. (hw)
