ERFURT – A fundraising campaign benefiting a total of ten Thuringian non-profit organizations concluded today, Thursday, June 15, 2023, with two donations presented in Jena to the Thuringian Cancer Society and the Jena Parents' Initiative for Children with Cancer (EKK). At the end of November last year, LEG auctioned off memorabilia from the historic "Erfurter Hof" hotel, which once welcomed guests from around the world as an Interhotel, for charitable purposes. LEG donated the total proceeds of €15,000 to the "LEG Summer School – Companies Committed to Families," which distributed the funds in recent weeks to ten non-profit organizations in Thuringia.
Today's donations in Jena were presented by Anke Kalb and Michael Russ, board member and member, respectively, of the "LEG Summer School – Companies Committed to Families e. V." The recipients were Prof. Dr. Andreas Hochhaus and Astrid Heßmer, chairman and managing director, respectively, of the Thuringian Cancer Society, and Katrin Mohrholz and Katja Heinze, managing director and deputy managing director, respectively, of EKK. Both organizations each received €1,500. The other eight recipients of donations in recent weeks are (in alphabetical order):

Background:
As the urban renewal agency LEG Thüringen oversaw the transformation of the "Erfurter Hof," located opposite the main train station in the state capital, 15 years ago and beyond. For decades, the building, then an Interhotel, welcomed numerous guests, attracting visitors with its appealing restaurants and, among other things, hosting a visit by West German Chancellor Willy Brandt in 1970. The state-owned company's archives had preserved a considerable amount of inventory, which was auctioned off to raise funds for the building's restoration. Among the memorabilia were seating, tables, lamps, hotel tableware, and the large mural "Around the World in Eighty Days" by Jules Verne.
The "LEG Summer School – Companies Committed to Families e. V." is closely linked to LEG through its board and association work and is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. The association brings together various initiatives on the topic of reconciling work and family life and advocates for social causes. The "LEG Summer School" is held annually, offering schoolchildren an attractive holiday program. Since 2021, the association has organized tree-planting events for families in Erfurt and the surrounding area – the next one will take place on November 3rd and 4th, 2023, in Haßleben.
