Central contact point for telemedicine in Apolda

Apolda will soon become the heart of telemedicine in Thuringia: The Thuringian Center for Telemedicine is being built in the Eiermann building, a listed industrial monument, covering 600 square meters. The project is being led by the agency WeCARe, with partners including the health insurance company AOK plus and LEG Thüringen.

The center is scheduled to begin operations at the start of next year and will then serve as a hub for medical research and practice. Among other things, physicians will be able to test telemedicine applications there; further training options in this field will also be available. In times of staff shortages at healthcare providers and long distances to doctors' offices in rural areas, telemedicine offers the possibility of providing healthcare services digitally in certain cases using modern technological solutions. An "Apolda Declaration on Telemedicine in Thuringia" served WeCare and its partners to emphasize the increasing importance of telemedicine for patient care, especially in rural areas. WeCare's goal is to create a network of all relevant stakeholders for the development of practical telemedicine applications. The activities are being funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research with €8 million over six years until 2027 as part of the federal competition "WIR! – Change through Innovation in the Region."
