Mobility is the driving force behind social and economic progress in Thuringia. This key topic will be the focus of the Thuringian Mobility Conference, taking place on Thursday and Friday, March 27th and 28th, 2025, at the COMCENTER Brühl (Erfurt). The conference is jointly organized by LEG and the Thuringian Ministry for Digital Affairs and Infrastructure (TMDI). Thuringia's Minister for Infrastructure, Steffen Schütz, and State Secretary for Infrastructure, Tobias J. Knoblich, will be in attendance, and three key initiatives for promoting mobility will be the main focus: The Thuringian Mobility Network (TMN) is the central theme. It connects key players in Thuringia's transport sector and promotes sustainable mobility in the Free State. On the first day of the conference, Minister Schütz will officially launch the TMN website. The official launch of the "Mobility Network for Valuable Rural Living Spaces," or "MOVEwell" for short, funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), will also take place. The second day of the conference will focus on the "Integrated Timetable (ITF) Thuringia 2030." A project that aims to implement a customer-friendly timetable through cross-district planning and targeted networking of regional bus lines with each other and with the railway, thus making public transport more attractive throughout Thuringia.
“Modern mobility and future-proof infrastructure in all regions of Thuringia are the foundation for positive development and sustainable prosperity in our state. In the Thuringian Mobility Network, we have brought together relevant stakeholders from science, business, associations, and politics to develop the best mobility solutions for our state. All modes of transport are considered equally and meaningfully integrated. The focus is particularly on improving connections to rural areas. Because modern, digitally available, and reliable mobility services are the basis for equal living conditions in both urban and rural areas,” said Minister Steffen Schütz ahead of the conference.
The Thuringian Transport Network (TMN) was founded last year. Its aim is to shape the transport transition in Thuringia in a socially and regionally equitable way. At the conference, speakers include Prof. Dr. Martin Weidauer from the Erfurt University of Applied Sciences on "Transport Infrastructure and Mobility in the Context of Spatial Development." Thomas Grewing from Erfurter Bahn will present potential for the further development of rail freight transport in Thuringia.
The MOVEwell project is being implemented by a consortium of seven partners under the leadership of the European Digital Innovation Hub Thuringia at the Bauhaus University Weimar (BUW). The project aims to improve access to rural areas in order to increase their attractiveness for businesses and skilled workers. The project will be presented on the first day of the conference by Prof. Dr. Uwe Plank-Wiedenbeck (BUW) and further discussed on the second day. A presentation by Andreas Knuhr, team leader of the Thuringian Agency for Skilled Worker Recruitment (ThAFF/LEG), will highlight the statewide marketing campaign for recruiting skilled workers in public transport. "We are delighted to be hosting the mobility conference at our COMCENTER Brühl, located at LEG's headquarters," says LEG Managing Director Sabine Wosche. She will open the conference together with Andreas Minschke, Head of the Transport Department at TMDI. "Our company is involved in expanding mobility in Thuringia through a wide range of activities – this applies to our ThAFF as well as to our Urban and Regional Development Department, which serves as the office for the 'Integrated Timetable'." The ITF in particular is expected to make a significant contribution to the transport revolution.”
This comprehensive project will be the focus of the second day of the conference, which will be opened with a keynote address by State Secretary Tobias J. Knoblich. Following this, Constantin Pitzen from the company Fahrplangesellschaft B & B mbH will present the ITF framework plan, which forms the basis for future regional bus services in Thuringia. Christoph Marquardt from the office MOBILE ZEITEN will then speak about the detailed planning for the regional implementation of the ITF.
The "Mobility Market," a multifaceted exhibition, accompanies the conference in the indoor and outdoor areas of the COMCENTER Brühl. Here, stakeholders from Thuringia's transport sector present a wide range of solutions and services for rail, bus, and bicycle transport. A highlight will be the unveiling of the "P-Mover," an autonomous minibus.
