A modern campus for Deutsche Bahn is being built in Erfurt

For Deutsche Bahn, it's a unique investment in the future, and it's being realized in Thuringia's state capital: Over the next few years, DB will build its central training facility near Erfurt's main train station and ICE hub. By 2028, a DB campus will be created, offering attractive opportunities for networking and training for up to 60,000 employees annually. DB is investing approximately €110 million in the project. It will encompass 7,600 square meters of space for seminars and events, as well as 15,000 square meters for green spaces and recreational areas.

At the official project launch in Erfurt in March, Germany's railway chief, Richard Lutz, described the future campus as an "ideas factory for the future of the railway in Germany." The DB Campus will fulfill many functions – it will be a training center, open to business, industry, and research, and thus drive innovation in the railway sector. In this context, Thuringia's Minister-President Bodo Ramelow emphasized the three-pronged approach of the future DB Campus, alongside the Erfurt University of Applied Sciences and the Gotha School of Transport Science. He confirmed that the railway is a central issue for urban and regional development. DB will utilize some existing buildings but will also construct new ones. Furthermore, LEG will build an adjacent hotel by 2028. "Once completed, it will be externally operated and offer overnight accommodation to DB employees as well as other guests on weekends," explained LEG Managing Director Sabine Wosche. (hw)
